Thank you

A big thank-you to all of the participants, competitors, helpers and spectators at this year's Regatta. Despite high winds, that made for some difficult conditions (especially at the start) we ran pretty well to time, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the event. We'd love to know what you though about the event, what you liked, what we could have done better or just general views - please drop us a line at regatta@mkrowing.org

Milton Keynes Regatta 2011

Following the success of the inaugural Milton Keynes Rowing Club Regatta in 2010, we will be holding our second Regatta at Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes on Saturday 21st May 2011 starting at 10:00. This will consist of two lane racing over a straight 500 meter course from a stake-boat start. We will be offering a wide range of events in all categories, covering rowing and sculling, Junior, Senior and Masters events.

Last year's event was the first event we had organised and was a great success with visiting crews from Northampton and Oundle Town joining us for a wonderful day's racing. We hope that this will become an annual event for the local community and will increase the interest in this sport. This year, to allow us to gain further experience of running an event, we are again holding it as an invitation only match, and have invited three clubs from the surrounding area. We hope to open it up more widely next year.

    Learn to Row course information

Throughout the year we run 'Learn-To-Row' courses. These courses are aimed at newcomers to the sport or for those who have rowed before (perhaps at University) and want a refresher. The course will take you through the initial steps, including familiarisation with boats and rowing terminology, for those who have not rowed before, and then into land and water based training. The course lasts for eight sessions, although these may be spread over more than eight weeks (if we are away at other events) and should lead to you being confident and capable to row in a coxed four by the end of the course.

Our next course will start in Spring next year (we don't run courses over the Winter, because of the inclement weather) and if you would like further information or would like to sign up for this course, please contact the course leader Karen Wilson or fill in the e-mail form below.

Course fees for the Learn to Row course are £70 and this covers all costs associated with the course. Payment is required in full before the course starts, either by bank transfer or by Cheque (details will be provided when your place on a course is confirmed). Spaces on each course are limited and will be allocated on a "first come first served" basis on receipt of payment.

    Social Events

Although we train and race hard, we try not to take ourselves too seriously, so as well as the rowing and sculling side of things, we have an active social life too.

There are usually a couple of "formal" events each year, the End of Season Dinner (at which club annual awards are made) and a Christmas Party (although last year's was held this January!). In addition, we have other social events - recent ones have included a Quiz Night (with Pizza), Bowling and a Pasta night. All members and partners (and children) are welcome to these and we've had some great evenings. We've also recently re-introduced the "Food after Training" on Monday evenings following circuits, where for a nominal fee you can get a meal along with others in the clubhouse.
