Junior Rowing

Most of the UK's top athletes have been associated with their chosen sport since they were knee high to grass hoppers. At Milton Keynes Rowing Club we recognise the importance of encouraging youngsters to take up our sport and have embarked on a long term project to ensure that youngsters have access to the experience and enthusiasm that we all feel for rowing.

To help facilitate this, MKRC has developed an association with Action for Youth to form the Milton Keynes Junior Rowing Club.

To date members of Milton Keynes Junior Rowing Club have had the opportunity to take part in regattas, notching up several wins, and one 16 year old female member has won the Gold medal at both the British and English Indoor Rowing Championships and another 13 year old has also won Gold at the English Indoor Rowing Championships and Bronze at the British Indoor Rowing Championships!

The club takes place at the Caldecotte Water Sports Centre. These sessions are run by qualified coaches from Action for Youth and MKRC. The session times are:

Monday 5 - 8 pm
Tuesday 6 - 8 pm
Thursday 6 - 8 pm
Sunday 12 - 2 pm (Row Club)
Sunday 2 - 4 pm

Row Club is for novice rowers, who have recently completed a "Learn to Row" course

If you are keen to be involved in junior rowing, please contact Ann Smith, the Action for Youth co-ordinator

Location

The Junior Rowing Club operates out of the Water Sports Centre on Caldecotte North Lake, not the main Milton Keynes Rowing Club centre on the South Lake. To get to the North Lake centre, go through the Car Park of the Caldecotte Arms public house (Bletcham Way, Caldecotte, Milton Keynes MK7 8HP) to the end. The water sports centre is at the very end, on the left.

Gold and Silver for MKRC

This year saw us build on last year's result at the British Rowing Masters Championship, coming home with a GOLD and SILVER medal. The Gold went to the Ladies' Coxed four of Lou, Heidi, Paula and Karen, coxed by Becks. Racing as a "C" crew against both "A" and "B" boats (with handicapping) they dominated the race from start to finish to really stamp their mark on this category. Helen and Jenny showed massive improvement, having missed out on the final last year, they powered through to take Silver in the "B" doubles. As well as the medal winners, there were other fine performances from many other Milton Keynes boats.

WEHORR 2013

The ladies squad followed up last year's impressive position in the Women's Eights Head of the River race by improving further in this year's race. Their final position was 67th overall, out of 320 entries. Another excellent performance by the MKRC ladies.
