Juniors

Most of the UK's top athletes have been associated with their chosen sport since they were knee high to grass hoppers. At MKRC we recognise the importance of encouraging youngsters to take up our sport and have embarked on a long term project to ensure that youngsters have access to the experience and enthusiasm that we all feel for rowing.

To help facilitate this, MKRC has developed an association with the Caldecotte Project (see below for location) - a provider of many outdoor and water based activities for young people. This joint venture is called Row Caldecotte, and in April 2004 it established a Junior Rowing Club, with equipment being provided through the ARA's Project Oarsome.

To date members of Row Caldecotte have had the opportunity to take part in regattas and one 16 year old female member has won the Gold medal at the English Indoor Rowing Championships and is the reigning British Champion at under-16, having won the Gold medal at the British Indoor Rowing Championships.

The club takes place at the Caldecotte Water Sports Centre on Sunday afternoons from 2 - 4 p.m. all year and on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m. during the summer months. During the winter months, fitness circuits are held at the George Amey Centre, Simpson on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7.30 p.m. These sessions are run by qualified coaches from the Caldecotte Project and MKRC.

If you are keen to be involved with junior rowing at MKRC, please contact the club captain or chair in the first instance.
