It's MK's 50th Birthday and 50 members of MK Rowing Club are rowing for 50 hours outside in The Xscape, starting 8am Sat 29th April, followed by running the MK Half Marathon whilst carrying a boat. So what's the challenge? Within this time, an attempt will be made to break the World Record for the greatest distance rowed on a rowing machine in 24 hours by a female team. Funds to be raised as part of a long term project to improve the experience for members and also to attract more local people to the sport.
Funds are being raised to improve the facilities of the Club by building a boat storage unit and gym facilities. The project has already been partly funded by MK Council and is backed by MK Parks Trust and British Rowing, as well as LEAP, the County Sports Partnership. Currently our boats are stored outside, and as a result require frequent repairs. The total cost of the project is £78,000, we have raised £38,000 so far and this fundraiser will go towards the final £40,000.
MK Rowing Club is the only rowing club in the area and has a growing membership. The sport is available to all ages, experience and abilities, and Learn to Row courses are regularly offered for beginners. We are keen to continue encouraging local people to get fit and take up a sport which can be pursued all year round. In the winter indoor training sessions are run in the clubhouse where all members have the opportunity to participate in circuit, weight training and indoor rowing
