Regatta Season
9/9/2007
Cambridge Autumn Regatta
A brilliant end to the Regatta season for the Womens' Novice 4+ crew
of Paula Heywood, Steph Heywood, Claire Lawson and Katrina Lopez,
coxed by Steve Lawson as they won their event and de-noviced.
Several other close races, including a 4x- (Jo Heywood, Pierre-Yves
Gilet, Becks Trouse and Steve Lawson) who lost by an agonising 4
feet. A bit of history as well as all four Heywood kids (Jo, Steph,
Mike and Rick) rowed together for the first time.

Northampton Regatta
Another win at Northampton, this time for the Mixed S4 4+ crew
(Paula Heywood, Rob Heywood, Steve Iles and Becks Trouse, coxed by
Graham Targett). No other wins but some close races and a special
day for Aisha Amani who won her first race (the repecharge in WJ12
1x). An attempt at the Heywood kids boat was thwarted when Jo pulled
a muscle in her back and was replaced by "near Heywood" Bex Evans.
Other firsts were competitive coxing debuts for Rob Heywood (Mixed
8), Doug Pentland (Mixed S3 4+) and Graham Targett (Mixed S4 4+)

Bedford Quarts Regatta
A mixed day! It started badly when Becks and Nicky capsized just
short of the finish line while leading - in the most unlikely reason
of all time, this was because of hitting a coconut (honest!). There
were first appearances (unsuccessfully) for Pierre-Yves Gilet (S3 2x
with Steve Lawson) and another junior (Aisha Amani in J14 1x) as
well as Mens S4 4+ and Womens S2 4+. We had to wait until the very
end of the day for two category wins - well worth it as the second
Mens S4 4+ crew and Womens Novice 4+ crew beat Bedford School and
Star/St. Neots respectively to collect their quart pots. This was in
a torrential thunderstorm, as the photos show!

Henley Royal Regatta
Despite a disrupted build up to the Henley Qualifiers, the S2 4-
crew (Paul Floodgate, Nick Cresswell, Dean Abraham and Phil
Lewington) decided to enter the mens coxless competition - The
Wyfold Cup. Limited experience over the distance in preparation for
the event left the crew with little expectation of what the outcome
would be. The result, although missing the ultimate goal of
qualification by a mere 4 seconds, was pleasing and bodes well for
the next season, with the crew producing their strongest row to
date. Many thanks to Martin Birch for his coaching efforts in the
run up to this event.

Star Regatta
No overall wins today but plenty of close races. Our Novice 4+
narrowly beat a Star boat in the first round before falling to
Norwich Union by an agonising 1/2 second. The Womens Novice 4 threw
up an interesting race with Paula rowing for MK against Jo in a Star
boat - who went on to win the category. The day also saw Curtis
moving out of the coxes seat to race in a single for the first time
- although beaten, a very creditable first race.

Peterborough Summer Regatta
In the end a good day for the club as Becks and Nicky (in their
first competitive outing!) won the Womens Novice Pair. Overall, not
a bad week-end though with the Novice 4 getting through to the
repechage, the Womens S4 getting to their semi-final and the Mens 4-
making it to the final. A first outing in MK colours for Steve
Lawson and Nicky also competing in her single.

Bedford Amateur Regatta
A bad day at the office as there were no wins for MKRC today.

Head Season
11/2/2007
Bedford Eights and Fours Head
Second head of 2007 and another win for the Mens S3 4+ crew. Good
showings too from the Womens S3 4+, Mens S4 4+ and Mens Novice 4+
crews. A first for the Women as Charlene stroked the boat in
competition and Raymond back to his sartorial best!

Northampton Head of the Nene
A good start to the year, with both the Men's S3 4+ crew and Women's
S4 4+ crew postings wins (and the Men setting the fastest 4+ time of
the day). Another first as well with a Women's 4x- getting its first
competitive outing.
