Head Season - 07/08

20/04/08
Abingdon Head
Four crews out today, the Womens' Eight, a WS4 4+ and two Vet Doubles, one Mens' and one Womens'. No wins but a very good performance from the Eight (second only to a strong CORC crew) and a reasonable first outing for Steve L and I in the double (third out of four but a competitive time). Nice location and really good management of boating!

Bedford Small Boats Head 2008
A good turn out of crews, especially from the juniors, but no wins. Best placing was the Men's S2 4+ who finished second (18th overall). When you consider the limited water time we've had recently because of high winds, this was pretty good. The Women's S3 4+ placed well against tough competition but the rest of the crews struggled to make any impact. Still, the number of entries and rowers is growing which augers well for the rest of the season

Bedford Eights and Fours Head
Not our most successful day at Bedford, with our best result being a third place (although at least two crews were obstructed on the course!). The entries emphasised the growing strength of the women's squad and the growth of sculling in the club. Notable events were Pierre-Yves' first appearance in a sweep event (in the S2 4+ boat) and me managing to avoid the bridges coxing on a river for the first time. Sadly the Novice Women were late for the start and couldn't row.

Northampton Head of the Nene
A good turn out today, especially from the women's squad. The S4 8+ crew won their division and there were strong showings from S4 4x, S4 4+ and N 4+. In these were debuts for both Kathleen and Sadie. The men's squad put out a S3 4+, Vet C 4x (first time we've raced a men's quad?), a Vet c 2x and N 2x (first time out for Will and I). It was also the first time out for our sexy new HG double - in club colours. It rows well and looks even better!

Star Head
Unfortunately, no wins today but some very encouraging performances. We put out two Men's 4+ (at S3 and S4), a Women'sS3 4+ and 4x (with Karen Wilson racing for the first time) and another new junior crew. This was a WJ15 2x of Florrie and Kate Jordan (Will's younger twin sisters)

Bedford Autumn Head
Although lacking in any wins, the Men's Senior 2 4+ (Paul Floodgate, Nick Cresswell, Dean Abraham and Phil Lewington, coxed by Curtis Karallis) produced some strong times in both the Senior 1 and Senior 2 categories. Despite some sterling coxing from Curtis and 2 strong rows, stiff competition in both categories meant they fell short of winning any pots, but the event gave good hope for the season ahead Photos Results.

Pairs Head
MKRC's first ever entry into the Pairs Head! Steve Lawson and Pierre-Yves Gilet braved the Tideway in their first Head Race together; not a brilliant time but a pointer of good things to come.
