I am writing to remind everyone that British Rowing have changed the rules regarding heel restraints. Rule 2-3-8b of the Rules of Racing has been amended to bring it into line with FISA standards, and requires each heel to be restrained to prevent it from rising higher than 7cm (the old maximum was 9cm), as measured at right angles from the foot plate, and the optimum is 5cm. Heel restraints are one of the checks you should perform prior to boating, so please make sure your shoes comply with this change in regulation. The club's first race of the regatta season is in a couple of weeks and I expect the safety-check marshals will be keen to see that crews are complying with this change.
