Race ReportFour wins across the two days of Peterborough Summer Regatta, two on each day.
Very well done to everyone who raced this weekend, particularly to our new development members entering at the novice events!! It was a fantastic weekend and we had some really lovely weather... Even with a slight tail wind to support us down the course ;-)
We made many finals as usual, but unfortunately just missed out on many of these or we had the unfortunate draw where one heat was faster than the other and so missing out on progressing to the finals. However... Even without winning, there were some very enjoyable races had by many, which is great! Some new combinations were racing for the 1st or 2nd time this weekend too and showed some really potential - so keep it up guys and let's keep knocking out those miles on the water together.
Saturday saw 2 wins for Milton Keynes... Firstly from the Men's IM3.8+ of Benn, Callum, Paul, Liam, JamesP, Nick, JamesH, Chris and coxed by Karen (racing in the new 8+... I guess we'll have to keep it now?!!), who were up against some strong opposition from Twickenham and Cambridge. Despite having a bent rudder (which we didn't find out until afterwards!), Karen managed to keep us successfully in our lane for the whole race and I'm sure was just keeping the umpires on their toes and adding pressure to the other crews ;-)
This was closely followed by the W.MasD.4+ of Heidi, Lou, Karen, Paula and coxed by Lucy, storming to victory in what seemed like a very strong and powerful win... Really looking smooth and in charge coming into the last 250m!
Sunday saw another 2 wins... 1 for our very own W.MasB.2x of Helen and Jenny - getting themselves back into their winning ways by demolishing the opposition even though 2 of the other crews had a head start due to the age category handicap. Our other win came from our merged pairs of Heidi and Louisa with Paula and Karen, coxed by Lucy. I'm not even sure if they've been out in this combination before or not, but with all the great squad training we've been doing - it certainly paid off, as they powered their way to a good win!
Well done everyone and keep it up... All this summer rowing will do wonders for your all in one tan lines =D
Next up - Warwick Regatta, Saturday August 22nd.
