Race Report
For the first time in far too long, we had some club crews racing today! Our WEHORR and HORR crews were at Head of the Trent in Nottingham. It's a long 5.7km race that is excellent practice for the tideway heads, as well as being a great course itself. For that reason it always attracts high quality crews - it's definitely a step up in competition from Northampton and Bedford, so just racing there at all is a great experience for everyone.First off were James, Nick, Dan, Shaun, David and me, plus super-subs Steve B and Pete, with Karen coxing, in IM3 8+. We finished in a time of 21:17.3. For three of the crew this was their first long head race, having only learnt to row last year, and they handled it brilliantly. We still have a lot of work to do before Head of the River in 3 weeks time though - we've definitely got a lot more we can give.
Then came the women's 8 of Alice, Jayne, Kelly, Lou, Paula, Marzena and Karen, plus super-club Clare, with me coxing, in W.IM2 8+, . They finished in 21:58.3. This was a much more experienced crew who finished in the middle of the pack, crucially beating our friends over at Northampton ;-) Let's see what they can do at WEHORR next weekend with some suitably mean coxing calls and the Return of the Towse.
Full results are online here, and videos of the two crews are in the usual place: . Thank you to Lou and Nick for videoing, and to Rob for his support towing the trailer and taking photos as always.
