Race Report

Well done everyone for an excellent day of racing at the British Rowing Indoor Championships yesterday. We had over 15 entries in both the individual 2km and 500m races, and in the 4km team relay event at the end. Of those 15 entries, 7 of them came away with medals, which is an amazing result! You can see the MK results below, and the full results are on the BRIC website.

The event is held in the Lee Valley Olympic Velodrome in London, which gives it a great atmosphere - I'm sure we all remember watching Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton there 4 years ago! Having the Team GB rowing team there was also amazing, with the men's relay teams racing alongside Team Sibhi and Team Satch. The women got pretty friendly with them too...

Results

Masters 30-39 Lightweight 2km
Lee Kindell - sadly missed his weigh-in so no official placing, but his time of 7:08 would have been 13/20.
Masters 40-49 Women 2km
Heidi Towse, 7:27.9, 7/21. Faster than last year yet out of the medals this year :-(
Masters 40-49 Women Lightweight 2km
Helen Marshall, 7:52.4, 3/9. A well-deserved bronze for our world champion, but there was better to come!
Masters 50-54 Women 2km
Lou Rivett, 7:44.0, 3/7. Another bronze for MK - proving that whatever she may say she is still pretty fit!
Masters 55-59 Women 2km
Helen Smith, 7:56.2, 2/7. Silver for Helen, showing just why are masters ladies are up there with the best in the country.
Masters 65-69 2km
Mike Povey, 7:57.2, 6/8. A great effort and only 1.2 seconds off 4th - must have been an exciting race!
U23 Men 500m
Shaun Turner, 1:26.3, 4/13. So close, just 0.2 seconds off bronze.
Masters 40-49 Women 500m
Heidi Towse, 1:40.1, 6/12. Obviously saving herself for the relay later...
Masters 50-54 Women 500m
Karen Wilson, 1:53.1, 4/5. An almost identical time and an identical placing to last year. Good consistency!
Masters 40-49 Women Lightweight 500m
Helen Marshall, 1:46.3, 1/4. Gold for Helen M, a great way to round off her amazing year.
Masters 55-59 Women 500m
Helen Smith, 1:50.2, 1/5. And Gold for Helen S! What a nice Christmas present ;-)
Men's Relay 4km
MK Mistral (Chao, David, Lee, Shaun), 12:41.9, 15/19. Having Team GB right in front must have made it a race to remember. Also great effort from Chao to make it just in time after his car broke down on the way!
MK Pitch (Callum, Chris, Rod, Tim B), 12:59.9, 18/19. A fun row with a close tussle with the crews around us, and a Team GB guy coming to cheer us on at the end!
Women's Relay 4km
MK Arrow (Alice, Karen, Kate, Lou), 13:46.8, 2/9. Two substitutions due to illness and still silver medal winners! That shows the depth of our women's squad.
MK Star (Annabelle, Cherry, Heidi, Jenny), 13:54.6, 3/9. One substitution and a strong challenge from the 4th place team weren't going to stop this team from claiming bronze.

Well done again to everyone, and thank you to those who came down to support. I'm looking forward to even better results next year!
