Hello all

For the first time in quite a few years, we had MKRC crews racing at Marlow Regatta last Saturday! The sun shone down on our men's 8 and on Matyas as they powered through their time trials and then their finals. Make no mistake this is a BIG regatta, with the best crews from all over the country coming for their final Henley preparations, and our guys were right up there with them showing the black and green and making their presence felt.

Our own results are below, and full results are on the Regatta Master website.

Race Results

Club 8+: John S, James, Benn, Ollie, Shaun, Charlie, Paul, Callum, cox: Andy

11/13 in time trial in 6:04.269, 4/6 in Final B in 6:26.214

The guys had their best ever row in the time trial, banishing the memories of their last 2km row at Nottingham (in very windy conditions) with a much better one on the famous and beautiful Dorney Lake. They were disappointed not to have placed higher, but they were really happy with their row and could not have done anything more.

In the B final the tiredness showed a little bit, but they were nevertheless only a length or two behind the top three crews as they crossed the line, which over a 2km course is not very much at all. They know the Henley Qualifiers on Friday will not be easy, but after their rows here they should be feeling much more confident with their crew.

Championship 1x: Matyas

24/32 in time trial in 7:23.259, 6/6 in Final D in 8:17.125

Matyas was sadly not able to race in the Lightweight category like he wanted, as he is technically still a junior and juniors are not allowed to do lightweight events, but rather than miss out on a chance to race at Dorney he elected to enter with the big guys! That of course made it rather more challenging, but he still put in a performance he should be happy with and massively enjoyed the experience. Incidentally, had he entered lightweight, then based on his time trial time he would have been second out of five overall!
